AusNet and Wipro Deliver SAP S/4HANA Cloud Rollout
AusNet, Victoria’s largest diversified energy network, has wrapped up a major digital overhaul, with help from Wipro, rolling out SAP S/4HANA Cloud (RISE with SAP Private Edition) ahead of schedule. This marks a significant milestone in bringing secure, scalable and forward-looking infrastructure to the energy sector.
AusNet’s CTO, Chris Galland, framed this transformation as more than a tech upgrade: “This was more than a technology upgrade – it was an opportunity for the entire company to rally together,” he said. He praised the seamless partnership between internal and external teams—both local and offshore—to keep customer, field worker and retailer operations running smoothly during the cutover. He added that the resulting platform is “faster, smarter and ready for the future.”
Ketan Panchal, Wipro Australia’s Managing Director and Country Head, emphasized how this collaboration, between AusNet, SAP and Wipro, has reshaped AusNet’s digital backbone. He said Wipro’s strength is in guiding companies through digital shifts using AI-led, consulting-first approaches, backed by global expertise and innovative tech solutions.
In just 18 months, the project replaced legacy ERP systems with an integrated cloud platform, setting a new speed benchmark for utility-scale transformations. A standout feature was its field efficiency upgrade: geospatial mapping tools and advanced asset-management software now run on handheld devices, even in remote areas with patchy connectivity.
SAP ANZ’s President & Managing Director, Angela Colantuono, noted that this cloud ERP combined with SAP Business Technology Platform positions AusNet to function as an intelligent enterprise. She said it enables them to tap real-time insights, improve efficiency and speed up the push toward cleaner energy. She added: “This implementation proves that with the right parties involved, highly regulated, asset-intensive industries can move fast and deliver value quickly.”
