New Capgemini-SAP Collaboration Set to Boost Gen AI Uptake

One of the world’s largest business and technology transformation specialists, Capgemini, will upgrade a long-standing partnership with SAP to beef up customers’ generative AI processes, a move it says will enhance productivity and improve their speed and quality of decision-making.

The 55-year-old French multinational leverages a relationship of more than 40 years with SAP, and is a current Global SAP Centre of Excellence, SAP Global Strategic Services Partner and SAP Global Platinum Reseller Partner.

It says the combination of its generative AI solutions with SAP’s Business Technology Platform (BTP) will contribute to improvements across business functions including HR, sales, procurement and sustainability.

The extended partnership incorporates key elements including using Gen AI to target industry-specific use cases for improved productivity and decision-making; incorporating Gen AI accelerators throughout project lifecycles to improve efficiencies and reduce time-to-market lag; and upskilling 20,000 of Capgemini’s own SAP specialist workforce on SAP’s own Gen AI technologies.

Narayanan Balasubramaniam, Capgemini’s Global Head of Enterprise Package Based Solutions, says Gen AI has already transformed the business environment in just the past 18 months.

“This expanded partnership with SAP will help clients efficiently adapt their business processes, setting them up for success in the short- and long-term,” he says.

SAP Chief AI Officer Dr Philipp Herzig says the company appreciates Capgemini’s dedication to enhancing SAP’s Business AI portfolio. “We are excited to expand our partnership with Capgemini and work together to combine SAP’s Business AI portfolio with Capgemini’s industry expertise to create new and innovative features that will help clients rethink their business processes,” he says.

The announcement comes just weeks after the Capgemini Research Institute revealed the results of a global survey that found 80% of software professionals believe that by automating simpler repetitive tasks, Gen AI-powered tools and solutions will significantly transform their own functions, freeing them up to focus on higher-value-adding tasks.

The report also found organisations with active Gen AI initiatives identify key benefits from its adoption including fostering innovation (61% of organisations surveyed), and improving software quality (49%).

Half of organisations (50%) surveyed highlighted plans to leverage additional time freed up by Gen AI for developing new software features, while 47% would upskill their workforce. Only 4% reported that they intended to reduce staff headcount.

Capgemini has a workforce of 340,000 team members in 50 countries. Its presence in the Australia New Zealand region was bolstered in 2021 by its acquisition of Australian SAP services specialist Acclimation, which included offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth and included Coles Group, PowerLink, MMG Limited, NSW Land Registry Services and Dulux Group among its clients.
